BioI am immortal. I drink the blood of the living to fuel my dead body. And yet how does my heart ache.
Matthias, as a human, had one of the most brilliant minds of the century, as well as a heart that loved too well. Though he had won fame and glory, his mind and soul were ever with his wife, Elizabetha. When she fell ill, he returned home from the crusades, but too late to see her alive again. He went mad after this, and it is thought that only his wife's gentle soul can break the spell of his madness and vampirism.
Matthias/Dracula as a vampire is still capable of a deep love, never truly harming his grandchildren (the Belmont line) nor Adrian, his biological son. This is evidenced by the fact that he fairly summons each to him when he arises, provides them with an array of weapons and ways to heal and rest in the castle. Here, also, is where the tactician in him is displayed. The castle rises to gain the attention of his line, attracting them to him. Dracula then throws obstacles in the way of the Belmonts or Adrian to test their strength, but never break them, aiding their quest with whatever they need. Then he faces them (to see the pride of his line) and allows his death at their hands and remains quiet for a while before rising again.
His castle is a reflection of Chaos as well as himself, somewhat quirky with other vampires, demons and creatures living their and obeying him. At times, the castle provides humor showing that Dracula/Matthias is not a complete monster.
And he is not incapable of sanity. Lisa, the mother of Adrian, tamed him from his rampaging ways and they lived in peace for over a decade until she was burned at the stake as a witch by townspeople. He went quite mad after that, but is still prone to fits of sanity, such as his death by his son's hand in which he asked Lisa to forgive him. Herein is where I would be taking the character up in the RP.
History:
In the midst of the Holy Crusades, the unstoppable forces of the Vatican were led by Leon Belmont, a brilliant swordsman and Matthias Cronqvist, a master tactician. Together, they claimed endless victories for the church.
Until Matthias was summoned to the bedside of his ailing wife, she died, however, before he could reach her. A terrible illness seemed to take him as well, however his best friend Leon was unable to see Matthias for his own lover was kidnapped and, against the will and orders of the church, Leon abandoned his titles and riches in order to seek her.
He found her under the power of a vampire, but he was too late as well. She was tainted and her angry soul was placed into the Vampire Killer whip that the Belmont line would carry against Matthias when he arose as Dracula.
A century after Leon's death, a strange castle arose in the Transylvanian mountains, led by a warlord, Vlad Dracula, called Impaler. He was a savage man, killing any and all he thought disloyal and slaughtering the Turkish armies that threatened to overcome his lands. However, he held a secret- he was no mortal man, but a vampire named Matthias Cronqvist.
After decades of both slaughtering and terrorizing the Turks and his own people, he settled down in peace after finding Lisa, the reincarnation of his beloved Elizabeta. They were together for over a decade when she was burned at the stake as a witch, inciting a furious madness in the vampire and traumatizing his son Adrian.
Adrian eventually helped sire the Belmont line that would face Dracula again and again, but the latest fight was father against son in which Dracula allowed himself to be slain for the sake of his child and the spirit of his wife that tormented him.
